VTP configuration

VTP configuration

Topology:

S1 config: (VTP server)

hostname S1

VTP domain ccna

vtp mode server

S2 config: (VTP client)

hostname S2

VTP domain ccna

vtp mode client

  • to verify , show vtp status

PS: all interfaces should be configured as trunk.

S1:

Switch(config)#int gi1/0/1

Switch(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

S2:

Switch(config)#int gi1/0/1
Switch(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

Switch(config)#int gi1/0/2
Switch(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

S3:

Switch(config)#int gi1/0/1
Switch(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

Lets test it:

we will create a vlan 55 on S1 (server) , and it should be configured via VTP on S2 which is the client:

S1(config)#vlan 55

S1(config-vlan)#name amigo

S1(config-vlan)#exit

S1(config)#exit

S1#

%SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by console

S1#show vl

S1#show vlan br

S1#show vlan brief

and voila , vlan auto configured on S2.
